For some reason, painting this new collection of birds is really helping to keep my spirits up in our current situation, and I've also realised just how much I've missed creating these little critters over the past few months! Alongside the new Birds of Hope, I've also started on some Birds of Strength, the first two of which you can see below. I never know how the birds are going to turn out before I start; sometimes they have closed eyes like they're thinking or dreaming; sometimes they have stripes or dots, sometimes they end up with intricate patterns that just seem to develop as I go along. It's almost as if the birds themselves dictate to me how they would like to look, and in the end each one has a distinct character of his (or her) own. The first two Birds of Hope I featured in an earlier blog post have now sold, but you can see the newest one (number 3) with her beautiful coral coloured wing in the bottom image. All are available through my Etsy shop Natasha Newton Art and are ready to fly straight from Paris to wherever you are in the world!

In other news, I finally bought a new camera after thinking about it for most of this year - I've upgraded to the newly-released Canon Powershot G1 X Mark II. I've used a Canon Powershot G9 for photographing my artwork for the past 6 years and it's a great camera, but it was time for something a little better. And not only that, but yesterday I also purchased a sturdy wooden A-frame easel so I'll be able to work on large canvas paintings here in Paris, which is something I haven't been able to do up until now. It's been a bit of a spendy time recently (I also bought a MacBook Air for my business a couple of months ago!) but I now feel I have everything I need to be able to work effectively and efficiently both in Paris and when I return to the UK, and that's a good feeling!
